Medicine at the Battle of Cedar Creek
Start Time: 6:30 PM
End Time: 8:00 PM
Venue: Shenandoah County Government Center
Sponsor: Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historic Park

The October 19, 1864, Battle of Cedar Creek only lasted a few hours but left behind a longer aftermath. As in all Civil War battles, the fields were strewn with the dead and dying. Combined, the two armies had suffered over 8,000 casualties (killed, wounded, missing or captured). During the battle field hospitals popped up across the field for immediate medical care, and after the battle wounded were consolidated in larger hospitals to receive treatment. This talk will be a brief overview of medical treatment in the aftermath of the battle and will explore a few case studies in more depth.

This program is presented in partnership between Cedar Creek and Belle Grove National Historic Park and Shenandoah County Parks and Recreation, and is part of Shenandoah County's educational lecture series. PLEASE NOTE: Register by July 18, max 30 historians. Pre-registration required! Register here: https://bit.ly/39w2CDC.
