Rob Orrison will speak on "A Want of Vigilance: The Bristoe Station Campaign, October 1863"

Many historians have glossed over the fall 1863 campaign in Virginia. Many are led to believe that between Gettysburg and the Wilderness not much happened and the Army of Northern Virginia was a battered army. But the truth is much interesting, as Lee's army was quickly able to rebound and take the offensive again against the Army of the Potomac in what became the Bristoe Station Campaign. Just three months after Gettysburg, Lee's Confederates were just twenty miles from the Federal Capital. Historian and author Rob Orrison will discuss the campaign's strategy and final outcomes as well as modern day preservation efforts to preserve the Bristoe Station battlefield.
