Beyond the Battlefield: 2023 Signature Conference

The Nau Civil War Center's 2023 Signature Conference, "Beyond the Battlefield: New Perspectives on Civil War Soldiers," will take place on Friday, April 14, 2023, in UVA's Small Special Collections Library auditorium. The conference will feature presentations by Elizabeth D. Leonard, Judith Giesberg, Hilary N. Green, Megan L. Bever, and Zachery A. Fry, and it will be free and open to the public.

9:45am: Opening remarks from Caroline E. Janney

10am: Megan L. Bever, Missouri Southern State University, "The Problem of Spirits: Soldiers Debate Medicine, Morale, and Masculinity"

11am: Judith Giesberg, Villanova University, "Sex and the Civil War: Soldiers, Pornography, and the Making of Modern Morality"

Noon: Break for lunch
