Though not as well-known as Generals Grant and Lee, New York native General Samuel Cooper was one of only 7 full generals of the Confederate Army and had the earliest date of rank.  There is much more to learn about this lesser-known figure of the American Civil War.

William M. Welsch, a retired administrator at Montclair State University in New Jersey, is the current and founding president of the American Revolution Round Table of Richmond, and co-founder of the Congress of American Revolution Round Tables. He is a past president of the Richmond Civil War Round Table, as well as a tour guide of Revolutionary War battlefields, presenter, and author of multiple articles on the Revolution. He served in the United States Marine Corps and is an old New Jersey politician.
