LECTURE TOPIC: The Amazing Legacy of James Edward Hanger. Hanger was a Confederate soldier who became the first amputee of the Civil War after being struck in the leg by a cannonball. He designed and created his own prosthesis, which led to his founding of a company that is still in business today.

SPEAKER BIO: Bob O'Connor is the author of many books on Civil War topics, both non-fiction and fiction. Several have been finalists for national book awards. Notable non-fiction works include The U.S. Colored Troops at Andersonville Prison, The Life of Abraham Lincoln as President and The Murphy Farm: A Refuge from Racism.
